Misty Smith

Misty Jarrett-Smith, introduces herself as ʔuquqɫas K̓ʷi·ɫap, meaning "my name is Misty." She proudly identifies as a mother to four wonderful children, stating, "ʔux̌u·s ʔabe·ʔiqsʔuq (I am a mother)."

Misty's professional journey is intertwined with her commitment to her Makah heritage. She holds certification in FPLCOT (First People̓s Language and Oral Tradition), which empowers her to educate students on Makah Language and Culture up to the 12th grade at Neah Bay High School. In addition to her teaching role, she is dedicated to preserving her culture as she works as the Makah Language Program Manager at the Makah Cultural & Research Center.

Furthermore, Misty actively contributes as a Teacher's Assistant for the online Makah Language courses offered at Peninsula College. Her dedication to language preservation and cultural education is unwavering, and she is deeply involved in the hi·dubaɫ baʔas group, a program committed to providing teachings rooted in Makah culture to ensure its enduring relevance.
